Traditional Fishing Boats India Outrigger Canoes Fishermen Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows fishermen in India with their traditional outrigger canoes, or kattumarams, on a sandy shore. These boats, with their characteristic large sails, have been a mainstay of the fishing industry on the Coromandel Coast for generations. The term "kattumaram" translates to "tied logs," reflecting the origins of this ancient and effective sea vessel.
