Shanghai Iltis Monument Unveiling Ceremony Military Parade Vtg. Photo 19thC.

This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows sailors and officials are gathered for the unveiling of the Iltis Monument in Shanghai. The monument, seen here covered by a large white cloth, was erected by the German community. It commemorated the German gunboat SMS Iltis, which sank in a typhoon in 1896. The ceremony took place in the city's international settlement.
