Paris Ruins Franco-Prussian War Commune Destruction Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the ruins of a grand Parisian building, the Cour des Comptes, are seen after its destruction. The ornate facade is heavily damaged with a collapsed roof and burnt-out windows, evidence of intense fire. This destruction occurred in May 1871 during the "Bloody Week" of the Paris Commune, which followed the Franco-Prussian War. The site is now occupied by the Musée d'Orsay.
