Japan Geishas Sleeping Kimono Futon Byobu Screen Lantern Vtg. Photo Late 19thC.

This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows two Japanese geishas are shown sleeping on a futon on a tatami mat floor, surrounded by traditional furnishings like a painted byōbu screen and an andon lantern. This type of staged, hand-colored photograph was popular during the Meiji period. These images, known as Yokohama shashin, were created for Western tourists and offered a romanticized view of traditional Japanese culture.
