Indian Thugs Group Portrait Men Turbans Beards Seated Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a group of seven Indian men, identified as members of the Thuggee cult, are seated on a rug for a formal portrait. The Thugs were a secret society of assassins in India, suppressed by the British administration in the 1830s. Photographs like this were often taken to document captured members of the infamous group, serving as an anthropological and criminological record of the era.
