Fatehpur Sikri Great Gate Agra India Mughal Architecture Vtg. Photo 19thC.

This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the Buland Darwaza, or 'Great Gate,' of Fatehpur Sikri near Agra, India, towers over the surrounding landscape. In the foreground, simple stone walls and a thatched roof hut stand in contrast to the grand gate. Fatehpur Sikri served as the capital of the Mughal Empire under Emperor Akbar in the late 16th century. The monumental gate was constructed to commemorate a successful military campaign and leads to the Jama Masjid mosque.
