This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows an ornate staircase with a central carved dragon ramp at the Imperial Palace in China. Now known as the Forbidden City in Beijing, this palace complex was the home of emperors and the center of Chinese government for nearly five centuries. The intricately carved ramp, or spirit way, was reserved exclusively for the emperor's passage.
