Ceylon Bread-Fruit Artocarpus Incisa Botanical Plant Tropical Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a botanical study of a breadfruit (Artocarpus incisa) branch, showing its large, lobed leaves and two round fruits. Breadfruit is a species of flowering tree in the mulberry and jackfruit family, originating in the Pacific islands and now grown throughout the tropics. This photograph was taken in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), likely as part of a series documenting the island's rich botanical diversity during the late 19th century.
