This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the historic Border Gate (Portas do Cerco) in Macau, which marked the division between the peninsula and mainland China. A group of people, possibly soldiers and locals, are gathered near the archway. This version of the gate was built in 1870 and served as the official border crossing for the then-Portuguese colony. The inscription across the top is a patriotic Portuguese motto.
