Zanzibar Sultan's Palace Unguja Waterfront Harbor Buildings Vtg. Photo 19thC.

This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the Sultan's Palace complex on the waterfront of Stone Town, Zanzibar, is seen damaged. The buildings, including the Beit al-Ajaib (House of Wonders) with its clock tower, show the effects of naval shelling. This photograph captures the aftermath of the 1896 Anglo-Zanzibar War, the shortest recorded war in history, which resulted in a decisive British victory after a brief bombardment.
