Weston-super-Mare Devon Pier Construction Sailboats Seaside Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the pier at Weston-super-Mare, extending from Birnbeck Island. The pier appears to be under construction or extension, with a steam vessel at the far end. Birnbeck Pier is the only pier in Britain that links the mainland to an island. Designed by Eugenius Birch, it opened in 1867 and is a Grade II* listed building.
