Washington USA Capitol Building Neoclassical Architecture Dome Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., with its iconic dome. The grounds in the foreground appear to be undergoing landscaping, a project led by Frederick Law Olmsted that began in 1874. The Capitol is the seat of the U.S. Congress and this photo captures it shortly after the new cast-iron dome was completed in 1866, a defining feature of the city's skyline.
