Temple Isis Philae Egypt Flooded Pylon Ruins River Nile Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the partially submerged Temple of Isis on the island of Philae, with its grand pylons surrounded by the waters of the River Nile. For much of the 20th century, the temple was flooded for several months each year after the construction of the Aswan Low Dam. The entire complex was famously relocated to the nearby island of Agilkia in the 1970s to save it from the rising waters of the Aswan High Dam.
