St. Pierre Martinique Harbor View Mount Pele Sailing Ship Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a view of the city of Saint-Pierre, Martinique, from its harbor, with the slopes of Mount Pelée rising in the background. Known as the 'Paris of the Caribbean,' Saint-Pierre was the island's commercial and cultural center. This image captures the bustling port city before it was completely destroyed by the catastrophic 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée, which killed nearly all of its inhabitants.
