Sikh Golden Temple Amritsar India Gurdwara Sarovar Causeway Vtg. Photo 19thC.

This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the Sikh Golden Temple, or Harmandir Sahib, is seen in the center of its sacred pool, the Amrit Sarovar, in Amritsar, India. A causeway connects the shrine to the main entrance, with the surrounding city in the background. As the holiest Gurdwara of Sikhism, its construction began in the 16th century. The iconic gold plating that gives it its name was added in the early 19th century under Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
