Scarborough South Bay Beach Scene Bathing Machines Castle Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a bustling scene at Scarborough's South Bay, showing Victorian holidaymakers on the beach with bathing machines at the shoreline. In the background, the town rises up the cliffside towards the historic Scarborough Castle. As one of Britain's earliest seaside resorts, Scarborough was a premier destination for sea bathing and leisure during the 19th century, a popular activity for which these machines were essential.
