Ostend Wounded Uhlan Lancer Soldier Hospital Ship Dock WW1 Vtg. Photo
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a wounded German Uhlan soldier is assisted from an early automobile onto a stretcher at a dock in Ostend, Belgium, surrounded by other soldiers and officials. He is likely being transferred to a hospital ship visible in the background. During World War I, the port of Ostend was a strategic German naval base and a crucial point for the evacuation and treatment of wounded personnel from the intense fighting on the Western Front.
