Mount Vesuvius Italy Volcano Lava Slopes Men Explorers Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a group of men stand on the cooled lava fields on the slopes of the volcano, Mount Vesuvius, in Italy. A large, unusual rock formation juts out from the side of the cinder cone. Mount Vesuvius is famous for its catastrophic eruption in AD 79, which buried the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and it remains an active volcano.
