London Workmen Manufacturing Ice Factory Laborers Industrial Vtg. Photo 20thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows workmen at an ice factory in London using various tools to process large blocks of ice. Before the widespread adoption of electric refrigerators, the ice trade was a significant industry. Manufactured or harvested ice was delivered by 'ice men' to be used in iceboxes for preserving food, a common practice in the early 20th century.
