London Street Life Flying Binmen Horse Drawn Cart Workers Vtg. Photo 19thC.

This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows two 'flying dustmen' or binmen pose with their horse-drawn cart in London. One man stands on the ground while his partner is on a ladder by the cart. This image is from John Thomson's 'Street Life in London,' a groundbreaking series of social documentary photographs from the late 1870s. The series provided a stark and realistic portrayal of the lives of the city's working poor, including those responsible for refuse collection.
