Le Shima Pacific WWII American Chaplain Leads Prayers Soldiers Vtg. Photo 20thC.

This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows an American chaplain leads a prayer service for soldiers on the island of Ie Shima in the Pacific during World War II. An altar has been improvised using two barrels and a cloth. Religious services provided crucial morale and spiritual support for troops serving in combat zones. Ie Shima was the site of a significant battle in 1945 as part of the Okinawa campaign.
