Lake Vyrnwy Dam Reservoir Welsh Hills Landscape Scenery UK Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the impressive stone masonry dam at Lake Vyrnwy, with the reservoir stretching out behind it into the Welsh hills. Constructed between 1881 and 1888, the Vyrnwy Dam was the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. It was built to supply fresh water to Liverpool, a feat of Victorian engineering that submerged the original village of Llanwddyn.
