Japan Geishas Ornate Kimonos Intimate Pose Japanese Women Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows two young Japanese women, likely maiko (apprentice geishas), are captured in an intimate studio pose. They wear ornate kimonos and traditional 'nihongami' hairstyles with 'kanzashi' hair ornaments. Geishas are professional entertainers and hostesses, highly skilled in traditional Japanese arts like music and dance. This style of portraiture became popular in Japan during the Meiji period, often created for tourists as souvenirs.
