This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a large group of laborers harvest leaves on a sprawling tea plantation in either India or Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). The workers, carrying large woven baskets, are spread across the terraced hillside among the tea bushes. Tea production boomed in British Ceylon in the late 19th century, becoming a cornerstone of the colonial economy and heavily relying on the labor of workers, many of whom were brought from Southern India.
