House Representatives Capitol Hill Washington Chamber Interior Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the empty chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. The photograph shows the historic layout with individual member desks arranged in a semicircle facing the Speaker's rostrum. This chamber is where federal legislation is debated and voted upon. This view captures its appearance from the late 19th century, a period of significant national growth and political change, before major renovations altered its interior.
