Het Steen Castle Antwerp Belgium Medieval Fortress Gateway Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the medieval fortress Het Steen in Antwerp, Belgium, is shown during a period of significant urban change. The photograph captures the castle's gatehouse and surrounding structures, with some buildings appearing partially demolished. Het Steen is Antwerp's oldest building, and this image likely documents the straightening of the Scheldt quays in the late 1800s, which isolated the fortress from the surrounding old town.
