Hawa Mahal Palace Winds Jaipur India Architecture Tents Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the iconic facade of the Hawa Mahal, or "Palace of the Winds," in Jaipur, India, with a street scene of market tents and a cart in the foreground. Built in 1799 from red and pink sandstone, the palace's unique five-story exterior contains 953 small windows. These windows, called jharokhas, were designed to allow royal women to observe street festivities without being seen themselves.
