Freiburg Schwabentor Gate Tower Street Scene Tram Germany Vtg. Photo 20thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows the Schwabentor (Swabian Gate) in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, with a tram passing through its arch. In the background, the spire of the Freiburg Minster is visible. The Schwabentor is one of two surviving city gates from Freiburg's medieval fortifications, originally built in the mid-13th century. The tower was raised and redesigned in 1901, shortly before this photograph was likely taken, giving it its distinctive stepped gable.
