France Mr Balfour Howitzer Artillery Soldiers WW1 Military Vtg. Photo
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows british statesman Arthur Balfour visits a British artillery position in France during World War I, accompanied by military officers. They stand before a large howitzer concealed by camouflage netting in a muddy, war-torn landscape. As Foreign Secretary, Balfour's visits to the Western Front were important for political oversight and morale. Heavy artillery, like the howitzer shown, was a key weapon in trench warfare.
