Constantinople Turkey Yldz Hamidiye Mosque Soldiers Crowd Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a large crowd and soldiers are gathered outside the ornate Yıldız Hamidiye Mosque in Constantinople, Turkey. This mosque was commissioned by Sultan Abdul Hamid II and completed in 1885. The scene likely depicts the Selamlık, the Sultan's weekly procession to the mosque for Friday prayers, which was a major imperial ceremony of the late Ottoman Empire.
