Cologne Germany River Rhine Pontoon Bridge Cathedral Skyline Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a view across the River Rhine towards the Cologne skyline, with a pontoon bridge in the foreground. The iconic Cologne Cathedral can be seen covered in scaffolding during the final phase of its construction. This pontoon bridge, or 'Schiffsbrücke', was a vital river crossing for the city for nearly a century before being replaced by a permanent structure.
