China Peking Beijing Legation Quarter Camel Caravan Cityscape Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a camel caravan travels along the city wall overlooking the Legation Quarter in Peking (now Beijing). The view shows traditional Chinese rooftops and a wide, dry moat. The Legation Quarter was an area where foreign diplomatic missions were located and became heavily fortified after the Boxer Rebellion of 1900, existing as a unique enclave within the imperial capital.
