China Military Parade Soldiers Officials Crowd Festival Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a group of Chinese officials standing on a field during a large military parade or drill. Rows of soldiers are visible behind them, with a large crowd of spectators watching from a hillside. The photograph likely dates to the late Qing Dynasty, a period of significant military reform in China. Public drills like this were meant to display the strength and discipline of newly modernized armies as the country faced immense change.
