Alpine Mountain Valley River Landscape Workers Sawmill Vtg. Photo 19thC.
This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows two men by a wooden sawmill on the banks of a river in a vast mountain valley. The river's edges are reinforced with stone and timber, indicating engineering work. During the 19th century, extensive flood control projects were undertaken throughout the Alps to manage powerful mountain rivers and protect local communities and agricultural land from erosion and flooding.
